www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 16, 2006 - 41 Major, minor All-Stars earn ball tourney titles Both the Oakville Major and Minor All-Stars began what they hope is a journey to the Little League World Series with tournament wins last weekend in Ancaster. The Major All-Stars (12-year-olds) rode reliable pitching, steady defence and timely hitting to a 4-1 record and the title at the John Stokoe Heritage Days Tournament. Oakville clinched the championship with a 5-1 win over the Windsor South Canadians in the final, avenging a 15-5 loss to Windsor in the preliminary round. Starting pitcher Kyle Hann allowed one run and Michael Jansen hit a clutch two-out single in the third inning to key the win. The Major All-Stars reached the final with a dramatic 5-2, extra-inning win over Ancaster. Evan Sinclair hit a twoout single in the seventh inning to spark the winning rally, while Mark McIntyre allowed one earned run in six innings on the mound. Earlier in the tournament, Oakville downed Stoney Creek 6-3 (with home runs by Greg Spence and Dennis McLeod), whipped Dundas 23-1 (three hits each by Tim Lawson and McIntyre, with Alex Tassielli scoring three times) and dropped the contest to Windsor (despite RBI doubles by Austin Reusch and Nick Raycroft, and a long home run by Tim Lawson). Meanwhile, the Minor All-Stars (11year-olds) drilled out 16 hits in a 7-2 triumph over arch-rival High Park in their tournament final. Michael Brooks jump-started Oakville's attack with a leadoff home run, while Alex Cangemi drove in Jason Darichuk later in the frame. The Minor All-Stars added their lead with a six-hit, three-run third inning, then padded their advantage with a two-run sixth. Johnny Danielson earned the win, striking out six and allowing two hits in three scoreless innings. Christopher McKay struck out six in the final three. Oakville downed Ancaster 7-5 in the semifinal after finishing second to High Park in the round-robin. Brooks hit three home runs on the weekend, with Danielson adding two. JW Rousseau, Daniel Simone, Gavin McLaughlin and Cangemi also hit round-trippers. ALL-STAR EFFORT: The Oakville Major All-Stars display the trophies they earned by winning last weekend's John Stokoe Heritage Days Tournament in Ancaster. The Minor All-Stars were also victorious.
