Minutes before the clock ran out on Oakville's Planning and Development Council Monday, council agreed to call on McGuinty to enforce his government's beefed-up Ontario Heritage Act. It also authorized its lawyers to seek an adjournment of the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearing set to begin July 13, until it happens. A year ago, Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn stood in front of the former Hill homestead, Glendella, to announce the beefing up of Ontario's Heritage Act. The news was welcomed and the Town incorporated the law into its refusal to allow Birchgrove Estates Inc.'s plan to redevelop the Quadrangle -- including moving heritage buildings like Glendella. Although the search ultimately came up empty, Halton Regional Police Sgt. Peter Payne maintained that the witness' actions went above and beyond and thanked him for getting involved.
