The annual Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council's Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario. Dr. Henderson is being recognized for her contributions to The Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C), an intervention and treatment program for juvenile fire-setters. TAPP-C is used in many communities throughout Ontario and in several other Canadian provinces. Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services Monte Kwinter and Fire Marshal Bernard Moyle presented the awards at a luncheon ceremony at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto. "Joanna's commitment to advancing TAPP-C in Ontario is truly inspirational," said Moyle. "Thanks in large part to her efforts, TAPP-C is helping hundreds of young people to deal with dangerous, fire-setting behaviours every year." Throughout her 12 years with the TAPP-C program, Dr. Henderson has drawn on her extensive clinical experience with young fire-setters to work collaboratively with the TAPP-C team to develop fire-specific clinical tools for the assessment and treatment of children involved with inappropriate firesetting. She contributed to the development of program manuals and has trained hundreds of mental health and fire service professionals across the province in the delivery of TAPP-C.
