www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 30, 2006 - 29 TV show took Sheila Pant's house By Krissie Rutherford OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Sheila Pant is letting a team of 17 take her house and sell it. The local artist's 378 Sunset Dr. home had been on the market for a month when her Re/Max sales representative, Peter Anderson, called W Network's Take This House and Sell It to help them out. The reality show is dedicated to getting homes that have been on the market too long ready for an immediate sale in just 48 hours, and on a small budget. The crew spent last weekend preparing Pant's home for an upcoming open house, and according to the show's interior designer, Glen Dixon, it was going to be quite a project. "The house is a little dated," he said, smiling. "It's specific to the owner's tastes," added the show's host, Kimberly Carroll. The house is listed at $429,900, and after two weeks off the market for the purpose of filming the show, it went back on the market with its new look on Sunday. "It's exciting to be part of a TV show," said Anderson, who added this is the first time he's called a reality TV show to help with the sale of a house. "I think it's going to be great. The homeowner was a little worried about the idea at first." But after she got used to the idea of a TV crew filming a team of 17 craftspeople invading and changing her home, Pant said she was happy to be involved. "I'm leaving the house now, so it doesn't matter what they do," she said, smiling. "Get me a customer and I'll be excited." Pant has seen a few episodes of Take This House and Sell It and said she was "quite impressed." "I'm enjoying this whole thing," she added. "I'm expecting in the end my house will look better than it did before." But first, Dixon and Carroll said, there was a lot of work to do. "Our seamstress is quite annoyed and our contractor is overwhelmed it's going to be a big job," said Carroll. "We're not just fluffing, we're actually making some full design changes," added Dixon. "It's going to be a challenging 48 hours to get everything done. It's already de-clut- tered, but now it's time for us to bring the whole look together to make it inviting to everybody." The other challenge, he added, was the size of Pant's home, which boasts a large addition at the back. The show has $4,000 to work with to pay for materials, on top of the labour costs. "With a limited budget, we're taking on quite a lot of space," said Dixon. That's part of the point of Take This House and Sell It to teach viewers about the tricks of the trade. "What we're trying to do is to show people at home what they can actually afford to do themselves on a low budget," said Carroll. Take This House and Sell It featuring Oakville's Sheila Pant is expected to air on W Network in the fall. Her 378 Sunset Dr., home has an open house Sunday. -- Krissie Rutherford can be reached at krutherford@oakvillebeaver.com The Regional Municipality Water Wise Halton of Halton Smart Watering When to water? Here are some more water efficient tips to consider: · Limit the amount of water lost through evaporation by watering your lawn in the early morning. · Set your mower height to 6 8 cm (2 ½ - 3"). This will provide shade to the root base and reduce the amount of moisture lost due to evaporation. · Try dressing your garden and flower beds with mulch. Mulch can work to keep soil cool and shaded thus limiting the amount of moisture lost due to evaporation. · Position your sprinkler to only water desired areas. · Use Smart Timers with your sprinkler system to make sure you are not watering when it is raining.
