www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday July 1, 2006 - 31 Dragonquest edges Chicks Little more than half-a-second separated two Oakville dragonboat teams as they battled to the finish line to claim silver and bronze medals in the premier women's championship at the Toronto International Dragonboat Festival. Dragonquest, seeded fourth heading into the final, used a strong finish to win the silver medal with a time of 2:28.28, just shading Vicki's Chicks with Sticks, which finished in 2:28.82. Tour East Holidays National Dragonboat Team won the gold medal. Dragonquest is captained by Monique Parisotto and coached by Mary Ann Siriunis. They paddle out of Burloak Canoe Club. Crewmembers are Judy Collaton, Kathy Furgala, Joy Fayon, Maggie Hardy, Claire Kelly, Mary Lynn Knapp, Jean Lloyd, Carla McGillivray, Ann-Marie McLaren, Nancy Molfetta, Kathleen Moro, Sue Pennie, Lynn Pinto, Nancy Primak, Lisa Skakie, Gail Smith, Pen Smith, Steph Spence, Patti Tilley, and Brenda Zinkiewich. Another Oakville team, the Wonderbroads, were fifth in a time of 2:32:84. Oakville's mother and daughter team, the Bladerunners, posted a time of 2:37:58 to put them in sixth place in the championship race. Dragonquest also competed in the Community F Cup race, taking first place with a time of 2:28.95. CLOSE FINISH: Local dragonboat squad Dragonquest (#2) finished second to the Tour East Holidays national dragonboat team at the recent Toronto International Dragonboat Festival. Hang time JUMP: Adam Lemmon was one of several local youngsters to take advantage of Thursday morning's nice weather and do some skateboarding at the Shell Park Skate Park.
