Two of my colleagues commented on the chunky plastic trim, arguing that more form-fitted door trim could have freed up more useable passenger space. I understand that, but I also realize that rugged look inside, as well as out, is what people expect in a Jeep. I drove both the five-speed in the North and the CVT in the Limited. While most will no doubt opt for the CVT, the five-speed with the 2.4-liter is a lusty unit that doesn't howl when you go to pass. But what stands out, especially in view of the price, is the sturdy/solid feel of the chassis. Not only does it work well with the independent suspension, it adds to the overall sense of security you want in a Jeep, but don't expect in a SUV that starts at $17,995 or about $10,000 less than the base model of one of its major competitors. Jeep invented off-road four-wheeling and has always been a force to be reckoned with.
