Top prize went to Nikhil Farias of Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School. Farias won for his plan for Blue Channel, a retail clothing store specializing in high-quality denim products and superior customer service. "These future entrepreneurs have gained valuable hands-on business experience and have also seen how their ideas can become viable business opportunities in the future," said Halton Regional Chair Joyce Savoline. Two students tied for fifth place and each received $100 ­ Mackenzie Ross of Abbey Park High School in Oakville for Steps, a health and fitness centre for teens; and, April Mitchell of Acton High School in Halton Hills for Young Gogh Co., an art program for youth to explore and expand their artistic abilities. "I'm impressed by the high levels of creativity and sophistication of each and every business plan submitted this year," said Paul Homer, Business Consultant with the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and member of the judging panel. "I'm also grateful for Halton Region's dedication to this annual competition. Without the support of Ontario's Small Business Enterprise Centres, the Business Plan Competition would not be possible," said Homer. "Congratulations to all winners in the 2006 Halton Region RBC Business Plan Competition," said Kimberley Mason, Regional Vice President, RBC Royal Bank, Halton. The 2006 Business Plan Competition provided students with the opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial talents and enhance their business skills. The Halton Region Business Development Centre invited all Halton high schools to submit their best plans, which were then judged by members of the business community. The judges evaluated the plans based on the quality of research, ability to demonstrate how the research results were used to shape the plan and complexity.
