The long-time local outerwear store is in the middle of renovations that will see its retail area double in size and give it a different look, one that will reveal some of the original brick of the more than century-old building it's called home for the past 54 years. "It's our biggest renovation yet," said Brenda Barrington, co-owner of the 209 Lakeshore Rd. E. store with her husband and sixth generation Barrington furrier, John. "We're really going down to the rafters this time." "This is one of the original downtown buildings, and we want it to have that feel," added John. "We're bringing it back to the original brick." The other reason the pair decided to renovate is because they need the extra space. The retail area, which was about 800 sq. ft., will be 1,700 sq. ft. when the renovations are finished in September. On top of the merchandise Barrington's usually carries, the store will be expanding the handbag collection to include Michael Kors and Spencer and Rutherford, and will also be adding more Burberry accessories, including perfume. "We felt like we were getting a little crowded. This allows us to better showcase our merchandise," said Brenda. "We'll be better able to serve our customers this way," added John.
