The 5KSM Run for Hope expects to have 300 runners in the Ontario Track and Field Association (OTFA) certified event, including about 10-15 youth who will be trained by KSM to participate, said Caroline Glasbey, a local runner and KSM adult literacy volunteer. "We'll need running shoes and sponsors," she said at the launch of the Changing Young Lives video at Burloak Christian Fellowship. "It will take us six weeks to train these kids." The race will start and finish on Bartos Drive near Oakwood School. Parking and festivities will be at KSM's property at Kerr Street and Prince Charles Drive. Entry fee to participate is $25 before Aug. 25 and $30 afterwards until race day. That money, plus pledges, will go to KSM. Cosimo Figliomeni and friends will walk from Mississauga through Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton and St. Catharines to Niagara. "There will be two main walkers plus several others will join them at various points along the route," said Frances Picciolo, one of the walk organizers. They will leave Thursday at 6 p.m., walking overnight from Lakeshore Road and Brown's Line, walk through Mississauga, stopping between 9 and 10 a.m, "when the weather starts getting hot," said Picciolo. "Cosimo started doing these walks, instead of holding a birthday party, when he turned 50," said Picciolo. Three years ago he walked 100 kilometres to raise money for the Hospital for Sick Children. Last year he walked 210 kilometres from Nobleton to Casino Rama (near Orillia) and back to raise funds to build a new church and this year he's initiating Make A Wish's first walk.
