SALE Friday, July 14 th Dawn till Dusk Nearing 10th anniversary of Bailey's Olympic golds Nearly 10 years ago, the clock read 9.84 seconds as Oakville sprinter Donovan Bailey crossed the finish line at the Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta, becoming the first Canadian male to win the 100-metre dash. Later this month, Bailey will commemorate that achievement as well as those of his relay teammates (who he helped win gold in the 4x100m relay later in the Games) with the Donovan Bailey 10th Anniversary Celebrity Roast in Toronto. Bailey will be joined at the Eglinton Grand Theatre by fellow celebrity athletes, entertainers, friends and business professionals from around the world. The event will be hosted by Canadian comedian Russell Peters. A portion of proceeds raised from ticket sales for the roast will benefit the Right To Play organization, which fosters the healthy physical, social and emotional development of children and helps build safer and stronger communities. Bailey said he is not only celebrating on behalf of himself and his teammates, but for his country as well. "When I stood on the podium in Atlanta and heard the sounds of O Canada, I accepted that medal for every Canadian. I shared that moment with Canada," he said. Bailey retired from track and field in 2001 as a fivetime World and Olympic champion. He still owns the world record in the 50m and the Olympic, Commonwealth and Canadian records in the 100m.
