www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday July 19, 2006 - 25 Auto EVERYTHING Show event Show off your Honda or Acura at Oakville Honda's Car For those who love their Hondas, there has never been a better time to show off your pride and joy than this coming Sunday, July 23 at Oakville Honda's inaugural Car Show event. Explains Chris Thompson, Parts Manager for Oakville Honda, "Car shows are something that have become very popular throughout the area. Drivers here work hard, and really take an interest in the Honda's they love. Whether that means customizing and personalizing every aspect, or else maintaining it in perfect showroom condition, it's something we here at Oakville Honda have been proud to help them do." Because there hasn't been a true car show for Hondas in the area, Chris and the team at Oakville Honda decided to put their parts expertise to work, and create an event that would welcome Honda and Acura enthusiasts from across the region. Says Chris, "This is a great opportunity to come down and show off your Honda or Acura, while at the same time getting ideas from what the people around you have done, having access to professional guidance and part advice, and just being able to really take part in the community of Honda owners and the Honda culture that has become so popular here." Certainly not an event for unsafe drivers or street racers, this is the kind of day where all are welcomed and everything can be enjoyed. "This is our first car show," says Chris. "But as they continue we hope to grow and always be adding new attractions for people to see and be a part of. These kinds of events have, in the past, been exclusive to Toronto. But now it's here in Oakville, and we look forward to showing off everything that we're about." Join Oakville Honda on Sunday July 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free and with door and show prizes to be won, as well as a wealth of genuine Honda parts and service information at your disposal, this is sure to be an event to remember. New drivers and optimised technology in the Volkswagen Race Touareg After seven days of testing under gruelling conditions, the Volkswagen works team pushed further ahead with preparations for the Dakar Rally (6 to 21 January). The tests with three Volkswagen Race Touareg 2 were conducted by works pilot Giniel de Villiers (South Africa) - who this season has won the FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup rounds of Transiberico and Morocco co-driven by Germany's Dirk von Zitzewitz - as well as Matthias Kahle from Germany, American Mark Miller, Frenchman Thierry Magnaldi and Finland's rally legend Ari Vatanen. Volkswagen field-tested modified components for the engine, transmission and suspension of the Race Touareg rally prototype, which is powered by a 275 hp diesel-TDI, five-cylinder engine with a 2.5-litre capacity. "Each of our three cars underwent a different test schedule, which we conducted successfully and without problems," Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen positively concluded. "We tested these modifications on off-road sections, in camel grass and dunes and also on traditional rally stages. Tunisia's terrain is perfectly suited for this. The extreme heat with temperatures reaching up to 50 degrees Celsius gave us crucial feedback as to the reliability of the parts we used whereas at the `Dakar' they won't have to endure such high temperatures. In conjunction with our extensive technical tests we also had the opportunity to observe the other drivers and co-drivers." After undergoing his first tests for Volkswagen at the end of April in Tunisia, six-time German Rally Champion Matthias Kahle took the wheel of a Race Touareg for the third time. Mark Miller who contested both the Dakar in 2006 for Volkswagen and last weekend's Pikes Peak hill climb race in the US state of Colorado with a standard Touareg V10 - contributes to the tests with his experience in a Race Touareg. For Thierry Magnaldi and Ari Vatanen, however, the team and vehicle were totally new. At the 2006 "Dakar", Magnaldi drove a Schlesser-Ford, Vatanen has won the desert classic four times. "The drivers were impressed with the Race Touareg and the professional environment at Volkswagen," said Kris Nissen. "Thierry Magnaldi immediately came to grips with the car and Ari's performance also looked very promising." In addition to the new drivers, two new codrivers joined the team for the first time. Ralph Pitchford from South Africa teamed up with Mark Miller. Co-driving Matthias Kahle was Australian Lee Palmer. Cutlines - Tough tests through deep sand, over treacherous sections covered with camel grass and along classic rally routes are just par for the course as Volkswagen's Race Touareg's prepare for another Dakar Rally with new drivers and new technologies.
