The Indians defeated the Braves and went on to down the A's 2-1 in the final of last weekend's rookieball tournament. Evidenced by its 19-1 regular-season record, the Oakville Buzz is difficult enough to beat under regular circumstances. When agitated, the Buzz becomes even more dangerous, as the Scarborough Saints found out Sunday night at Maplegrove Arena. Oakville handily defeated the Saints 14-5 in the opening game of the teams' Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior B second-round playoff series, turning it on after Scarborough took physical liberties with the Buzz's top sniper. Derek Pierson, who led the Saints in penalty minutes this year, was ejected from the game in the second period for spearing Brenden Thenhaus. Though the Buzz led 4-1 at the time, the incident provided plenty of motivation the rest of the game. "They lit a fire under us," said Oakville coach Glen Little, noting the play was atypical of the Saints. "They're not a goon team. It took us by surprise." Alex Crepinsek and Justin Wilson-Kirby each recorded hat tricks in the rout, with Drew Petkoff and Josh Smyth striking for two goals each. Also tallying were Chris Moulson, Mike Bentivegna, Kyle Hagel and Sean Thompson, the latter adding five assists for a six-point night. The series resumes tomorrow (Thursday) in Scarborough, with Game 3 slated for 8:30 p.m. Friday at Maplegrove.
