The documents -- which detail specifics on how Halton's Strategic Plan goals will be advanced -- were endorsed by councillors recently, along with the health and social services, planning and public works and administration and finance committees last week. Each plan reflects themes from the Strategic Plan approved by council in 2004 -- services to people, managed growth, economic prosperity and an effective Halton Region. Some of the actions put forward include to: · Expand on eviction prevention and crisis services and advocate for adequate housing-related support. · Deliver an awareness program aimed at promoting appropriate driver response to emergency vehicles. · Define a Durable Halton Plan including a long-term growth management strategy considering an integrated greenbelt/greenlands system, healthy communities and urban land needs incorporating a 2031 planning horizon. · Develop an energy management strategy for Region facilities to include initiatives to reduce energy consumption and to investigate the feasibility of energy generation initiatives. · Advocate to assist foreign-trained professionals acquire Canadian experience and build on their training and education through linkages with business and non-business and other professional associations.
