The Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar is holding its 3rd annual Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival on Sunday, Aug. 20. More than 60 teams are expected to compete this year at Kelso Conservation Area in Milton. The Burloak Canoe Club is entering four boats in this 500-metre race. Participants will race in heats from 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. This year proceeds of the event will be going to the Halton Children's Aid Society as well as several other charities. With a small single blade, 20 paddlers in a seated position paddling on both sides, a dragon boat can be mastered more easily than a canoe or kayak. Anyone can enter, from expert to beginner, teams to individuals with limited spots still available. The festival attracts hundreds of visitors and not only includes actionpacked races, but a wide selection of food and beverages complete with a beer tent and musical entertainment for everyone involved. This year's sponsors include: Whole Foods, The Co-operators Insurance, The Sign Department, Tiger Tel Communications and Philthy McNasty's. To find Kelso Conservation area, take Tremaine Road north of Dundas Street to Kelso Road in Milton and turn left to the park entrance.
