Taken from us on 10 August 2006, after a brave and determined battle with cancer, aged 74. Devoted and beloved husband of Myra for 51 years. Loving father to Doug (Patricia) and Catrina (Jeremy). Affectionately known as "Gramps" to Laura (mother Sally), Emily, Victoria, Olivia, George, Chelsie and Ariel. Step-son to Jean and brother to Doreen (Ron). Brother-in-law to Astrid and Kay (the late Sir Donald Campbell). Uncle and friend to many. Alistair's love of family was a driving force in his life, and his favorite times were with us in England, Scotland and Canada. Born in Rutherglen, Scotland in 1932 he went to school at Hutchesons Grammar School in Glasgow and played in the rugby First XV. He served his country in the British Army, first with the14/20th Kings Hussars and was then commissioned as an officer in the Royal Army Service Corp (RASC). After military service, joined the Bank of India and then the Bank of Montreal in Canada, where he provided dedicated and loyal service, posted in Canada and England, until he retired in 1990. He loved history, reading and golf, and liked nothing better than to enjoy times with friends and family. He was a loyal and staunch friend, always considerate and a gentleman to all. His sense of humour was well known, and he liked nothing better than to tell amusing anecdotes about business, history or current events. Upon retirement, he kept busy with travel and home, and enjoyed his computer, staying in touch via email and also by letter to friends from all over. Those of us who knew and loved him were privileged to do so. He will be sadly missed by us all.
