"We've been able to offer recreational dance, and we've also been able to take beginners and make them professionals," said Lupien, who has been dancing since he was eight and met his wife, Dawn, at a dance studio in Simcoe run by her mother, called Dot Blakeley Dance School. "We studied with her and she managed to take us all over the U.S. and Canada to train and compete," Lupien said of Blakeley. "We got that world experience." The cast of 15 instructors includes Lupien's brother, Dennis, a professional dancer who has danced all over the world and was the lead role in Cats on Broadway. After 20 years in Mississauga, the family-owned and operated Canadian Dance Company (CDC) has relocated to a bigger facility on Bristol Circle. "We're very proud of this space," said studio director, Allain Lupien, who founded the CDC with his wife, Dawn. "It's a facility a dancer dreams of performing in." The 9,000-square-foot facility boasts four large dance studios and has attracted a lot of interest since its January opening. "People are often walking in off the street, there's so much more traffic here," said Lupien. "It's very obvious that we're in Oakville." The CDC will hold a grand opening Saturday to celebrate the move and give residents a chance to tour the facility, win prizes, watch dance shows and more. "At CDC we've always had this philosophy: It's character first, dance second," said Lupien. "We don't just teach dance. We try to build character and inspire dancers."
