www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday August 23, 2006 - 9 Women Crusaders ready for prom night Take Back the Night Sept. 14 Dr. Pamela Appelt of Oakville, Canada's first female Afro-Canadian judge in the Court of Canadian Citizenship, will be the keynote speaker at the 16th annual Take Back the Night on Thursday, Sept. 14. She will speak at about 7 p.m. The event will be held at Coronation Park, Lakeshore Road east of Third Line, starting at 6 p.m. Hosted by Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Services of Halton (SAVIS), the event will also feature singer-songwriter Sarah Melody and poet Denise Anderson, a survivor of sexual assault. There will also be community booths, face painting, henna tattoos. This year's theme will be `Walking in Sisterhood' and women and children will be invited to march to Bronte and back along Lakeshore Road starting at about 8:30 p.m. Take Back The Night has been an internationally organized event held since the 1970s to protest violence against women and children. For more information call SAVIS at 905-825-3622. Continued from page 1 ture in Sports Illustrated of a similar game played between two universities in Florida. "The idea stuck so we figured we'd do it for charity, and we were really pleased with the results." This year, girls from the under19 team and the mini team ages eight to 12 are volunteering and getting involved. It's a club-wide event on the women's side. And if the game is anything like last year, it will feature some unexpected events, too. "Our referee showed up last year wearing a skirt and a tiara, and then all of a sudden our linesman came out and he was dressed in drag," said Lamarre. "There were a lot of surprises." The prom dress charity rugby game is Saturday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. at Crusaders Park on Ninth Line just north of Upper Middle Road. It's right after a senior men's first team regular season game. "Men from the men's team want to come by and dress up as well," said Lamarre. "It's going to be a good time." Players donate a minimum of $10 to play and are encouraging family and friends to donate to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) as well. Tax receipts will be issued by the CBCF. The event will also include a barbecue, prizes and raffles. The Tannery Manor, a leather furniture manufacturer, has donated two leather club chairs for the raffle and East Side Mario's at Oakville Place has donated gift certificates and prizes to the cause. CHIROPRACTIC GOOD HEALTH If you think. . . As people get older, their lifestyles change, as do some of their physical capabilities. However, that does not mean that they should accept pain and disability as a fact of their life. Seniors have every reason to remain active and physically fit. While there are certain health problems more often identified with aging, such as arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions, they need not be painfully debilitating. Nor should they keep the senior from enjoying a full and satisfying life. If you are depending on drugs or medications, think again about the side effects. Also, think about how much better off you would be with a natural form of health care. Visit a chiropractor, who is a specialist in structural health, for an authoritative opinion on your condition and how best to treat it.!
