www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday August 25, 2006 - 17 Summer Sizzlers veteran receives Ray McConnell award Erin Davidson is this year's recipient of the Ray McConnell Memorial Award, an honour bestowed on a deserving leader in Oakville Recreation and Culture Department summer children's programs. Davidson ­ who started with Summer Sizzlers in 1999 ­ was recognized for her "commitment and dedication" to summer operations that was evident early on in her involvement with the Town of Oakville. The award is presented annually in memory of Ray McConnell who was an outstanding leader in the Summer Activity Centre Program from 1979 through 1981. His namesake award is presented to an outstanding staff member "whose qualities exemplify a high degree of leadership skill who has made a contribution to the community through his or her leadership ability." In selecting the winner, quality of work, attitude, judgement and overall ability to effectively perform assigned duties were all considered. McConnell was killed in a senseless accident in 1982 when his motorcycle was struck by a drunk driver who his portfolio for acceptance at Waterloo University where he hoped to realize his ambition to be an architect. For her part, Davidson does not shy away from challenging situations either. Said the Town: "She faces every issue head-on with complete confidence and the desire to come to a positive outcome for all involved ... She creates a welcoming environment for new staff and is willing to share the `ton of experience' she has gained during her employ." Davidson was also described as a "consummate professional" who manages to balance the fun and work aspects of her job. "Genuinely concerned for the good of the program, Erin engages all staff to strive for their personal best and does not expect less from herself."
