One of those, according to Federal Labour Minister JeanPierre Blackburn, the man in charge of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for Ontario and Québec, operates The Weather Network in Oakville. Blackburn visited Pelmorex's head office on Bristol Circle Wednesday morning to chat with company president Pierre Morrissette and meet Pelmorex's Diversity Committee. The team headed by human resources manager Kris Amaral has been formally in place since 1999. In 2003, its work led Pelmorex to win a Vision Canada award from the federal Human Resources and Development Canada (HRDC). "The purpose of the minister's visit is that Pelmorex Media Inc. is a leading Canadian company in the area of employment equity and diversity," said Morrissette, who heads up the firm that operates The Weather Network from its new Oakville-based headquarters as well as MétéoMédia in Québec. Pelmorex has not only picked up the Vision Canada award, but in recent years logged perfect scores when measured for performance in the area of employment equity and diversity. At this point in time, what began as the culture of the company and was formalized after the Employment Equity Act became law applicable to it, is now simply the way it is at Pelmorex. With the Employment Equity Act up for its five-year review this September, that's not the way it is at many other workplaces though, according to Blackburn.
