The approval also means that the document is now officially in effect under the Planning Act, with the exception of a map that has final approval pending from the board next month. Regional Chair Joyce Savoline applauded the board's decision, calling it "great news." "It confirms we have a good handle on how to plan Halton," she said. The new version of the Official Plan incorporates the many settlements the Region reached with those who appealed it, ranging from large businesses like Dufferin Aggregates to private landowners. According to Oakville Fire Department Chief Fire Prevention Officer Gary Laframboise, the house is in such bad shape that the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office plans to issue what's called an unsafe order, which will prevent anyone, but authorized personnel, from entering the premises. Next, the Town of Oakville's Building Department will decide whether the structure can be saved or the place has to be torn down. Given the condition of the house, Laframboise said he's a little surprised it remains standing.
