BARRIE ERSKINE / OAKVILLE BEAVER DAMAGE: Interior damage, as seen through a window from a neighbouring property, from the Tuesday evening fire at a Dashwood Drive home in north Oakville. Anything saved was thanks to firefighters Continued from page 1 be merely decorative is about all that is holding things together, he said. The lintels around the rear windows are gone and virtually all the wood framing has been destroyed. The fact that anything remains, said Laframboise, is a testament to the skill of the fire crews that responded immediately to the blaze. The one silver lining in the incident is that relatives of the family who were not home when the fire started live nearby and have provided both shelter and emotional support for their displaced and, according to Laframboise, very distraught loved ones. According to Halton Regional Police, it was around 6 p.m. when officers and firefighters were summoned to the two-storey, single family home on Dashwood Drive in north Oakville. Staff Sgt. Jeff Corey said a number of neighbours contacted 911 after they witnessed a significant amount of smoke and flames coming from the house. Emergency crews were on scene within minutes, however the house was completely engulfed in flames upon their arrival, said Corey. Fortunately all of the occupants were not home at the time of the fire, including two children and the family dog. No one was injured. Ontario Fire Marshal investigators who have been at the scene since shortly after the fire had not determined a cause as of press time, although Laframboise did say the blaze started on the ground floor at the rear of the house. Police are asking anyone with information to call 905-825-4777 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
