34 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday September 15, 2006 www.oakvillebeaver.com Oakville Humanist meeting Saturday Bronwen Bruch and Karl Eden of Halton Fair Vote Canada will be guest speakers at a joint meeting of Humanists from Mississauga to Niagara hosted by the Oakville Humanist Community on Sept. 16. The meeting will be held at Chaps Restaurant, 355 Plains Rd. E., Burlington from 2 5 p.m. The meeting will attempt to explore alternative electoral systems. "One of the tenants of Humanism is support for the democratic process, so it is no surprise to learn that Humanists are concerned that our current `first past the post' electoral system often leaves the majority of people very under-represented, and leaves some segments not represented at all," said Elka Ruth Enola of the Oakville Humanist Community. Interested members of the public are welcome to attend. For information contact Elka Ruth Enola at ere@sympatico.ca or 905-257-7075. Dig In To Fall Nov. 30, 06 to Feb. 18, 07 Dinner & Show Makes a great Christmas Gift! More and more each year the trends lean toward fall planting. There is great value on plant material in the fall season. Garden centres are keeping the selection alive and fresh well into the first few snowfalls and the survival rate with fall planted material does not differ from the traditional spring planting season. Don't be afraid, there is still plenty of time to plant. Head out to the garden centre this weekend, pick up your favourite nursery stock and perennials and bring them home. Plant like you would in the spring. Use a good soil, maybe add some triple mix and don't forget Miracle Gro Quickstart transplant fertilizer. Water everything in well and don't forget to keep them moist throughout the fall and winter to establish a strong root system. Just remember have fun and get planting.
