Husband of the late Norma Irene Cameron and of the late Margaret Elizabeth Walsh. Son of the late William Maher and the late Mary Evelyn Maher (nee Welsh). Predeceased by his sister Kathleen Prior (nee Maher) and his brother Jack Maher. Good friend to Mary Scharfe of Ottawa. Born June 12th, 1940 in Harmony N.S., she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Nola (Crocker) Hiltz. Betty was raised in Aylesford, N.S. and spent her childhood in the Annapolis Valley of N.S. Betty graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax in 1961. She was married in 1962 to David, a banker, and they spent the next 13 years in various cities in the Maritimes. After 4 years in Montreal, PQ., they moved to Oakville, ON where they have spent the past 31 years. Betty worked for Fabricland Distributors for 19 years and retired in 1996 as a District Manager. She was a long time member of Hopedale Presbyterian Church and an active participant of the craft and quilting groups. Betty was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed using her creative talents to assist her family with designing & decorating dilemmas. Betty enjoyed traveling and had many wonderful trips with her husband including an around the world trip and a cruise to Alaska. Most of all she cherished her annual vacations with her family and grandchildren to "Ga's" holiday house in Florida. Betty's first love in life was her family including her two precious grandsons which were her pride and joy. Surviving are husband David, daughters Suzanne (Dale) and Heather (Don) and her grandchildren, Noah and Tyler. Also surviving are sisters Barbara Cummings and Bernice Clarke (MA, USA) and brothers Lawrence and Gordon Hiltz (NS) and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. Helen Pyle, Hospital Chaplain Catherine Thompson, the Bayshore nurses and all the hospital nurses that have cared for her. Family will receive friends at the Kopriva Taylor funeral home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. W, Oakville on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday, September 18th at 11 a.m. at Hopedale Presbyterian Church, 156 Third Line, Oakville.
