20 - The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday September 16, 2006 www.oakvillebeaver.com The MAY COURT CLUB of Oakville www.maycourt.ca Helping the youth in the Oakville community ducation. In a town such as Oakville which takes such genuine pride in our forward thinking approach to business, science, and achievement, there is no greater priority than to offer an education which empowers and develops our children to reach far beyond anything we might have expected. But what is to happen when the cost of education makes it difficult, if not an impossibility, for those who have the most to gain from it? All too often these students in need have been turned away, and we all have lost something in the process. Such has been the case for generations, but for the past 50 years, The May Court Club of Oakville has worked diligently through their Maycourt Club scholarship program to ensure that these young men and women might still get the chance to shine. Since the inception of the program in 1956, the support of educational pursuits has been a priority for The May Court Club of Oakville members. Primarily assisting Oakville High School students that demonstrate a commitment to the community who are in financial need, May Court's program is unique in that it encourages recipients to apply for further funding with each subsequent year of their ongoing educa- E tion. The result has been to create a positive scholastic atmosphere of trust and success where anything becomes possible. Such has been the case with recent recipient Michelle Fagundas, currently attending Ryerson through the help of The Maycourt Club of Oakville. Says Michelle, "As a student entering my fourth year in the Fashion Design program at Ryerson University, I'm grateful to have received The Maycourt Club of Oakville's Scholarship for each year of my post-secondary education. It is because of their continued support that I now have the opportunity to work as a research assistant on a joint project between Ryerson and Princess Margaret Hospital working to develop specialized clothing for women suffering from Lymphedema, a condition that can occur after a mastectomy. I continue to be grateful to The Maycourt Club, as without their assistance, my dreams of a University education may never have been realized." For empowering the students of today to become the leaders of tomorrow, The May Court Club of Oakville continues to learn from a half-century of success, and looks forward to a future every bit as bright as the future they have been providing for students across Oakville.
