30 - The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday September 16, 2006 www.oakvillebeaver.com Happy The Maycourt Club of Oakville 50th Anniversary The MAY COURT CLUB of Oakville www.maycourt.ca Touching the lives of so many... M y Mum, Edith Watson, was the President when I was a teenager and I remember still her excitement and sense of accomplishment. Yes there were big events but I remember this one... A high school student was brought to their attention as her teachers felt she had tremendous potential but disfiguring teeth. She did not participate, had trouble making friends and was headed for failure BUT had a very high IQ could May Court help? With the money provided she got her teeth fixed - discovered a beautiful smile - a new confidence - graduated with top honours and went on to university. I have no idea her name but have always been so touched by the kind hands that helped that young gal. When I recently returned to OakvilleI knew exactly what I wanted to do with my time, energy and heart. That was three years ago and I now have so many new friends, my own huge sense of accomplishment, a proud Mum and a very happy heart. Halton Healthcare Services and the Oakville Hospital Foundation would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for all of the support that the Maycourt Club of Oakville has generously given to the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital over the years through charitable donations. decade ago, in response to urgent needs for support voiced by local families and their children who were living with HIV/AIDS, The Miriam Group was born. Discussions with these local affected families, Halton Public Health Nurses and the Director of a Toronto-based family support group, confirmed the need for a Halton-based group. The May Court Club, known to be sympathetic to children and family needs was contacted. Conversations with their executive and their general membership resulted in their enthusiastic and overwhelming support for the project. Tangible support in the form of seed money was promised. Since then there has been a representative of The May Court Club on the Board of Directors of The Miriam Group. May Court women have generously supported The Miriam Group's Annual World AIDS Day, community breakfasts and annual fundraiser "A Taste for Life." They donated Christmas treats each year for all our client families and have made a donation annually for our ongoing much needed support groups. The May Court Club has been with The Miriam Group since day one and have become good friends,. We offer congratulations on this special relationship. Special thanks must go to Sherri Staffen, Liz Burpee and Eveline Dear we couldn't have done it without you!
