Two years ago on Sept. 23, Jensen Tire founder Willy Jensen lost his battle to prostate cancer. "The sale lands on the second anniversary of my dad's death, and this week is also prostate cancer awareness week," said president of Jensen Tires, Connie McCulloch-Jensen. "We've done a sale for the last 20 years on the anniversary, but this is the first year we're doing a charity thing. "Our main objective for this is to raise as much for the Cancer Society as possible," she added. Not only will prices be "drastically lowered," says McCulloch Jensen, but the 20th Anniversary Charity Event will also feature a free BBQ all day, fun for kids including a clown and bouncy castle, and displays including Michael Schumacher's Ferrari F1 Display Car, Patrick Carpentier's IRL Display Car and an F1 Interactive Racing Simulator. "Michelin is also supplying an F1 car, and we'll be having a contest for the fastest person to take the wheels off, like they do in the pits for races," said McCulloch-Jensen. The anniversary charity event also features a silent auction including products donated from area businesses like a set of tires and a Dell computer. All proceeds from that will go to the Canadian Cancer Society. Live bands will be performing at the event, including Long Tyme Forgotten as well as Steve Kern ­ Tribute to John Denver. Kern has flown in from California to perform at the fundraiser, which will also be covered via radio remote by 97.7 HTZ FM. The Canadian Cancer Society will also be in attendance to answer questions and take donations. Those who make a donation Saturday will receive a gift from Jensen Tire. In addition to the silent auction proceeds, $5 from the sale of each tire on Saturday will go to the Canadian Cancer Society.
