They will be there over Thanksgiving. The students have been preparing for this project by volunteering at Habitat's Re-Store in Burlington and at a build site in Burlington. Now they are holding a fundraising campaign, Buy a Brick, Build a Home, in hopes of raising the $30,000 needed for their Guatemala project. The students, Stephen Soock, Julia Nethersole, Sloane Alltree, Heather Milukow, Samantha Kwok, Stephanie Wilson, Tiffany Assman and Sidra Buchh all in Grades 11 and 12, will also take a banner with them to Guatemala. Those who purchase bricks, doors and windows or any other components of a house can sign this banner, donated by David Desrocher of Wynford Motivates. "We'll also be looking for corporate sponsors," said Emily Oliver, one of the two leaders and a French and history teacher at Iroquois Ridge. The other leader is Vinita Maharaj, an English and geography teacher. The Iroquois Ridge students, and their two leaders, may be the first Canadian contingent in Habitat for Humanity's new Global Village initia See Students page 14 EMILY OLIVER / SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER STUDENT BUILDERS: Volunteering at a Habitat for Humanity build site in Georgetown, installing insulation, are from left, Julia Nethersole, Heather Milukow, Samantha Kwok, Stephanie Wilson and Sloane Alltree.
