www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday September 27, 2006 - 9 Halton MP Garth Turner hosting two Oakville Town Hall meetings As a pivotal session of Parliament opens in Ottawa, Halton MP Garth Turner is offering voters and taxpayers a chance to have their say on key issues in a wideranging series of Town Hall meetings. These events are open to anyone and are spread over five communities across Halton. The first in Oakville takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Dynasi Restaurant, 399 Dundas Street West, at 7 p.m. The second one takes place Saturday Oct. 14 at 2:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd. in the Trafalgar Room. "I know there are large numbers of people who want to talk to me about the major issues we're facing as a country," said Turner. "We have a budget coming up, and this is the time for taxpayers to have input. As well, our mission in Afghanistan is extremely challenging, and costly in many ways, and we need to talk about why Canada is there. As well, I must vote soon on re-opening the samesex marriage issue, which is controversial and should be fully discussed. Plus, the government's new environmental action plan is set to be released, and I'd like to ensure it meets the expectations Halton voters have." Since being elected MP in January, Turner has held nine public Town Hall meetings, which helped form the basis for his pre-budget submission to Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, calling for family income-splitting and further tax reductions.
