"Every month a startling 300 families in the Oakville area go hungry," says Terry, of Royal LePage "That's why I chose the Oakville Fareshare Foodbank." If clients buy or sell a home through Terry, he will donate $500 to Fareshare to help feed hungry children and families. "I've seen the great work they do down there," he said. Over the next 12 months his goal is to donate $10,000 and Terry said he plans to continue his giving on an ongoing basis, so each year he will strive to outdo the previous year's goal. In order to show his commitment to this arrangement, Terry has already signed an agreement with Fareshare. "If I have a good year, great. If I have a modest one, so be it," said Terry, who, with his family, has lived in and been an active member of Oakville for more than 16 years. Fareshare spokesperson Dudley Clarke admitted he was somewhat skeptical of Terry's apparent generosity when they first spoke, but any doubts were quickly erased. "This was a most extraordinary offer. In my 14 years with the foodbank I've not experienced an offer like this," he said. "Bill's genuine desire to help is very evident and he is genuinely concerned." Terry said he recently became acquainted with the work of Fareshare through his church, Glen Abbey United, which has supported the foodbank from time to time. In speaking to Clarke, he also came to realize just how many families depend on it despite the apparent affluence of Oakville.
