She's the author of nine books of poetry, including Over the Roofs of the World, which was nominated for the Governor-General's Literary Award for Poetry in 2005 and was runner up for the Cuban Casa de las Americas Prize 2006. Her short fiction includes Summer Lightning, winner of the Commonwealth Writers Prize, Arrival of the Snake-Woman and Discerner of Hearts. Now a resident of Toronto, Senior is originally from Jamaica. She conducts writing workshops internationally and is on the faculty of the Humber School for Writers in Toronto. The guest poet for the Poetry Café is Andreas Gripp. Each Poetry Café begins with readings by local poets, guest poets and feature poets and ends with an open microphone People are encouraged to bring poems to share. Admission of $5 goes toward the cost of the feature poet and the chapbook made of the poems read that day. All are welcome, but reservation is necessary to ensure seating and a chapbook.
