www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday October 4, 2006 - 9 Murron's Cabinetree owners throw support behind Candlelight Ball By Krissie Rutherford OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The Lakeshore Rd. store that's known for its giant black bear, funny signs and comical owners is giving back to the community in a big way. Murron's Cabinetree owners Ron Southwick, Gaye and Murray Farncombe are co-presenting sponsors of the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital's (OTMH) premiere fundraiser: the Candlelight Ball. The way the trio sees it, the $25,000 sponsorship is a thank-you to a community that has supported them in business, family and health for 25 years. "Between the success of our business, our families having grown up here and our kids having gone through the school system, this community has been here for us," said Murray. "We're fortunate enough to be in a position to give back." Ron and Murray started a cabinet-making company in Oakville in 1981, and later opened the high-end cottage furniture and decorative accessory store along with Gaye. They opened Murron's named after the `Mur' in Murray and `Ron' to the current 215 Lakeshore Rd. East location 15 years ago. Their high-end cottage items, original furniture, art and other decorative accessories have been a hit in Oakville. "We've been very well-supported by the community, the store is doing really well through good customers," said Murray. Now, they want to say thanks, and the trio said the hospital was an obvious choice to support. Proceeds from this year's Candlelight Ball the 15th annual will be used to purchase equipment for the expanding Intensive Care Unit (ICU). "What I like about the hospital is that I really feel very comfortable knowing it's there, we live right around the corner and we know that if we have a problem, we can walk in," said Gaye. "I've never felt a hospital was part of me as much as this one." Her mother had a minor heart attack in the summer, and it was the services of OTMH she sought. "It's very much a part of us," said Gaye, who also gave birth to her three children at OTMH. Burlington Convention Centre. The theme this year is Hollywood Glam, and the event features the Anita Rossi Band and a live auction. The grand raffle prize is an all-inclusive vacation for two including a flight to the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum in the Maya Riviera donated by McTavish Travel and Air Canada Vacations. BARRIE ERSKINE / OAKVILLE BEAVER FOR THE HOSPITAL: Ron Southwich , Murray Farncombe, and Gaye Farncombe of Murron's Cabinetree, the co-presenting sponsors for this year's Candlelight Ball. Ron's four kids were born there, too, and he says the hospital is a defining part of the Oakville community. "In a big town, it's a small town hospital. It has a real community feel to it," said the former Toronto Argonauts linebacker, who now helps coach high school football. "This (sponsorship) is all about being part of the community." Ron, Gaye and Murray have attended the Candlelight Ball and have supported and made donations to the OTMH over the years, but this is their first huge sponsorship. "Oakville has never let us down. Everything we've tried here has worked," Murray said, in terms of business, schooling and medical services. "We've been very pleased to be successful in any endeavour we've made here, which is why we want to give back." The Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital's Candlelight Ball is Saturday, Nov. 4 at the VALE MUL www.annmulvale.ca ct le -e re t cNN ORe AY l A M P R OV E N SHIP LEADER
