Sarah is one of us. She is a child at one of our 27 licensed child care centres. Every morning, her mother drops her off so that she can learn, laugh and play with her friends. She pours her own milk from a plastic jug and it makes her feel so good when she doesn't spill a drop. And if she does....she is proud that she knows where to find the things she needs to clean up. It's all part of growing up. Jordan is one of us. He goes to Y Summer Camp every year with his Y friends. He does not talk or think as quickly as the other kids, but that does not YBC. She loves the fun, the coaches and learning new skills. It's a great way to get active. Terry is one of us. He's 62 years old and he is at the Y membership facility all the time. He swims, lifts weights, and sometimes he is the only man in the Core Strength classes....but the ladies know him well. Terry loves the encouragement that he gets at the Y. He finished 14th out of 40 entrants in the 60-64 division in the Subaru Ironman Canada event in August. Michelle is one of us. She is an assistant supervisor at a Y Child Care Centre and she cares for the kids like they are her own. It's amazing how well they know her and she knows them. The kids love the way that she looks them in the eye and talks to them like they are a real person ­ it lets them know that they are important. Timmy is one of us. You can see behind his glasses that his sharp brain is constantly thinking and changing direction as he picks up a new toy and tries it on for size. He likes to come to Wiggles and Giggles at the Y with his mom ­ it's a free program offered to all as part of the Steps & Stages preschool programs. Lynne is one of us. She works at the front desk at the Y, when she is not with her daughter Kaileigh. She answers people's questions about where to go and what to do....and she is always smiling and cheerful when she does. The purpose of Library Week is to celebrate libraries of all types across Canada and the ability to access the world through the interconnectivity of libraries. Public Library Week events at the Oakville Public Library: Customer Appreciation Day on Sunday, Oct. 15 at all branches. This is the kick-off event for library week. Senior library staff, Town councillors and Library board members will participate by staffing different areas of the library.
