Deaths BERNARD, April Lee- April Bernard, born in Burlington, the beloved daughter of Louis and Lee (MacRae) Bernard, passed away on Saturday September 30, 2006 at the age of 36. April resided with her parents in Meaford who were former residents of Oakville. She will be sadly missed by her brother Craig Bernard of California and by her sister Shawna Bernard and by her niece Callista Lee of Meaford to whom she was a devoted aunt. April is also survived by her aunts Dolores Smith of Toronto, Linda MacRae and Elizabeth "Libby" Henderson of Cape Breton, and uncles Donald, Kenneth and William MacRae also of Cape Breton and she will be fondly remembered also by their families. In her youth April was known as a very helpful and caring individual who managed her school's swim team and tutored students in mathematics. She loved to travel and enjoyed her many experiences including a school trip to Italy and a family journey in Southern Africa where her father was engaged in his career. April began to study nursing in Hamilton but regrettably her affliction with Crohn's disease ended that pursuit. She was however, determined to enjoy her life and to share her immense knowledge with family and friends. She was known for always telling the truth and for doing so with humour never wishing to offend anyone. Funeral and committal services, officiated by Reverend Gary Parker, were conducted at Christ Church Anglican in Meaford on Thursday, October 5, 2006 where her father Louis and dear friend Jackie Connelly shared special remembrances of April. Cremation followed and a private family disposition of April's cremated remains will be conducted at a later date.
