The project will expand the ICU so it can provide for an additional six beds, a second nursing station, and an isolation room. This $1.5 million project is already underway and will take approximately 9 months to complete. The Oakville Hospital Foundation is currently fundraising for the cost of the new equipment required for the unit - items such as ventilators, an aortic balloon pump and a centralized patient monitoring system. Early Intervention in Psychosis Program HHS' Mental Health Program, along with its partners at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital and North Halton Mental Health Services, recently received $756,000 in new funding to initiate a new leading edge Early Intervention in Psychosis Program for Halton Region. This program will work with family physicians, schools, parents and the public to help identify and intervene quickly with young people who may be developing a psychotic illness. Research shows that if such illnesses are diagnosed and treated rapidly, the long-term outcomes are significantly better and those affected are able to maintain a regular lifestyle. The program will be working closely with academic health science centres in both Hamilton (St. Joseph's Hospital) and Toronto (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health). It is expected to be up and running by January 2007.
