On Sunday, Nov. 5, Oakville high schools are encouraged to rally together to take the Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer High School Challenge to help answer just that question. The Oakville high school that can do both will be crowned the 2006 Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer High School Challenge winners and will receive a $250 Oakville Place gift certificate for their school. The challenge, initiated by Iroquois Ridge, has been taken up by two other competitors to date: T.A. Blakelock and St. Thomas Aquinas. "Every high school loves a challenge. It will be incredible to see just what our high schools will do to show their support for Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer," said Lisa Moffatt, Fundraising Coordinator, Canadian Cancer Society Oakville Unit. Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer is a leisurely, non-competitive, 5-kilometre fundraising walk designed for people of all ages and all fitness levels. The event launches at 7:30 a.m. with registration and a light breakfast for participants, courtesy of Tim Hortons. Opening Ceremonies, hosted by Wave 94.7 FM's Vickie Van Dyke, will take place in Centre Court at 8:45 a.m. A special survivor recognition ceremony will honour those who have faced and overcome breast cancer. At 9 a.m., participants will lace up their sneakers and take to Oakville Place's indoor track for the 5-kilometre walk.
