www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday October 27, 2006 - 5 Four candidates receive support from sitting councillors Continued from page 1 Mulvale would make the best mayor for the town. Two are throwing their support behind Stoate, one is lining up behind Wright, and one is endorsing Burton. The three remaining candidates have declined to say who they think would do the best job leading the town. In terms of public endorsements, councillors Ralph Robinson, Jeff Knoll, Fred Oliver and Mike Lansdown are on the record with their choices. Robinson (Ward 1) and Knoll (Ward 5) are both supporting Mulvale. She also received support from one additional council member, who spoke to The Beaver on the condition of anonymity. Robinson, who notes in a public letter that he has worked with Mulvale for more than 20 years, says the current mayor "always finds the Ann Mulvale Chris Stoate Janice Wright Rob Burton best solution, given the practical realities of a situation." Knoll says he is throwing his public support behind Mulvale because he thinks it's crucial the town benefit from her experience in the coming term. "I honestly believe this is not the time for change at the top," he said. "So much is going to come to a head over the next four years. "We're going to be in decision-making mode almost instantly, and I don't think there's time for a learning curve." Stoate, who is just finishing up his rookie term as a town councillor, has the public endorsement of Lansdown (Ward 1), who is also finishing up his rookie term and not seek- ing re-election. Stoate also received the support of one additional councillor in The Beaver's confidential survey of the local politicians. On Stoate's brochure, Lansdown is quoted as saying that he respects Stoate's "quick grasp and analysis of issues, his logical decision making, and his ability to work co-operatively and productively with colleagues and town staff." Wright has been endorsed by Oliver (Ward 2), who is quoted on her website as saying that her "extensive knowledge of the town and regional issues, her administrative abilities and dedication will be a benefit to all Oakville citizens." The one councillor who is throwing support behind Burton has, so far, opted to keep that support confidential. No sitting councillors are endorsing Giecewicz for mayor. Correction In an election section in Wednesday's Oakville Beaver the names of three council candidates were misspelled. The correct spellings are Andrew Pask, Ward 3 Town Council candidate, Max Khan, Ward 6 Town Council candidate, and Emmett Sullivan, Ward 6 Town Council candidate.
