Halton Regional Police said the accident occurred during rush hour traffic just before 4 p.m. The van travelling eastbound on Dundas Street had moved into the right lane and was preparing to turn southbound on Third Line when the cyclist was struck. Police said the cyclist, whose name is being withheld at the request of the family, was thrown forward and landed under the front of the van. The cyclist was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital where he underwent emergency treatment. The accident is being investigated by Halton police's Regional Traffic Bureau. Numerous vehicles were in the area at the time of the accident and witnesses are asked to call police at 905-878-5511, ext. 5108.
