20 - The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday October 28, 2006 Sam dips into her mailbag Dear Sam: My husband, son and I are hoping to get away to Florida for a week or two and would like to rent a condo or something similar. Where and how do I go about finding a place to rent and ensuring that it is reputable? Reader Dear Reader: Use the great website for Visit Florida www.VISITFLORIDA.com and search by typing in "condominium rentals in Florida." Then you know they're reputable. Dear Sam: We loved and appreciated your recent article on Rochester. I love Rochester and more people should be aware of the rich history there. I don't know if you made it this time around but you must visit the Susan B. Anthony House on Madison St. as this particular neighbourhood is so richly diverse I love it. Besides the history of Frederick Douglas and Susan Anthony, now it is a mix of high and low income housing and it really works, they have set amazing examples for all of us. I have added a link h t t p : w w w. s u s a n a n t h o n y house.org. Thanks for the great articles. T and A Dear T and A: Much to my surprise there was so much to see and do, I didn't have nearly enough time to see it all. Dear Sam: I'd love to go to New Zealand, but I'm terribly allergic to all kinds of things, and my brother told me before they open the plane when they land, staff come on and spray it. Is this true? If so, I just couldn't fly on that airline. Ms Allergy Dear Ms Allergy: I'm afraid so, they do the same in Australia. The powers-to-be feel this protects the country, from bugs, etc. that could ruin their crops. Hi Sam: I just finished reading your latest article about cruising, and took note of the mention of Norwegian Coastal Voyages. If I met a single lady, that would be good too, but I'm really interested in a great holiday. Single Dear Single: I do like Occidental very much, they do an excellent job. However, this year they aren't doing "no single supplement." There are a number of choices in Cuba, usually between November 1 and just before Christmas. Grab yourself the Sun books and have a look. Sunwing for instance offers the Sol Sirenas Coral Resort and its sister resort the Sol Palmeras Beach Resort. These are both Meliaproperties, and if you like a compact resort, either is a good choice. Nolitours offers the Blau Varadero, with options of no single supplement November, most of December, much of January, April to July and late August to the end of October. I couldn't find anything in the Dominican Republic, but a travel agent might know. There aren't as many options this year. The tour operators seem to be more into single parents with kids deals. You're more likely to meet a "single lady" going at that time. Have fun. Dear Sam: I read your article in the paper and was interested in traveling to South America. I am interested in Eco tours. Could you help me? Wishing you Peace and Laughter, T Dear T: Thank-you, what a nice thought. Gateways International does a great job of South and Central America. They offer Eco trips to Brazil, Chile, and Honduras. Call 1-800-2680900 or www.gateways-internation.com Tourcan Vacations is another great choice. They also offer Tours for Women only that are getting great reviews. 1-800-263-2995 or www.tourcanvacations.com Sam Ion can be reached atsion10@cogeco.ca BEAVER TRAILS TO MEXICO: Matthew and nathan Taylor took The Oakville Beaver to the Tulum Ruins in the Mayan Riviera. They are pictured here high up on a cliff overlooking the turquoise-blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. Visit McTavish At: www.mctavishtravel.com I have been trying to find an agent to arrange a trip with NCV for the past few weeks, after recently watching a travel show about them on either TVO or PBS. I have gone so far as contacting NCV directly at their New York head offices, but would prefer to deal through a local agent; who would also be in a position to arrange airfare, transfers, etc.? In your article you made mention of Holiday House and Transit Holidays, both of which carry Norwegian Cruise Lines, but neither of which have anything on NCV (a different company entirely). Do you have the name of another tour company that carries NCV's cruises? Love your articles, John P.S.: Recently returned from two weeks at the Royal Decameron - Panama in March. For anyone who loves sun, heat (95F), good food and wonderful service all at a great price - it's the place to go. Hello John: I'm putting your question out there for travel agents. Agents, if you can help John, e-mail me and I'll pass your name along. The Panama Royal Decameron does a great job, and as you say at a great price. Dear Sam: You once wrote about how much you like Occidental Hotels. I'm wondering if that would be a good fit for me. I'm interested in Cuba, the Mayan Riviera, and Jamaica.
