A night earlier, McPhail's secondperiod goal tied the game at 1-1 and teammate Ashley Riggs scored the winner in overtime. McPhail, who helped the Toronto Jr. Aeros win the Provincial Women's Hockey League championship last year, shares the Niagara team lead with three goals in six games. Tigers guard Jen Hyland, playing with four fouls throughout the second half, ran the offense effectively and scored a game-high 15 points. Alida Carlin added 14 points and provided a rebounding presence for the Tigers. Kelly Hannivan and Sarah Clark came off the bench in the second half when Blakelock's starters began to tire, helping the Tigers pull away in the final quarter. AT FROZEN ROPES Peter Marino at Twisted Fork Saturday November 4, 2006 "You could say I'm one of the only guys chased by an Oscar-winning actor" shares Peter Marino jokingly. So began an interview with this multitalented singer and performer who has won over audiences across the United States and Canada. It was in the film `The Undertakers Wedding' that Peter Marino did a scene with Adrien Brody, the now-famous Oscar winning actor from the movie `The Pianist'. Brody, who had hoped to socialize after a long day of shooting, chased Peter down the parking lot and asked why he was in such a hurry. Peters' reply? He was late for a `gig' at a wedding that night and had raced across a parking lot to do what he does best sing and perform. Peter Marino originally from Oakville, now a Burlington resident, is a classically trained tenor/singer with several honors and awards of merit. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music under the same voice teacher as Robert Goulet and many other well-known artists. Marino has TV, Radio and Recording experience along with several singles and albums to his credit and has also appeared in several films. Peter has done voice-overs and commercials including "Condo, Condo, Condo"; a catchy take on the song `Quando, Quando, Quando' that was done for a local homebuilder that saturated radio stations across the G.T.A. Interestingly, when asked how long he's been singing, Peter answered simply: "since childhood". Even when just a kid, he loved to sing. Despite his parents not being singers, music was in his blood and a part of his life from early on. Besides knowing it was always what he wanted to do, Marino was fascinated by it and became a musician just so he could play his guitar and sing his heart out. In the late 1960's, Peter's career had an interesting twist as he played with `The Sketch', a band out of Oakville that also featured on drums Augy Carnovale, a local Real Estate Broker. Friends since childhood and like brothers, they played together in their teens with Dave Diamond, who had success with a band called `The Kings' with their top-40-hit `Switchin' To Glide'. Peter reflects back on those good times and his friends own success: "you know it's a hit when they make a karaoke song out of it", Peter jokes with a smile. However, not to be overlooked is Peters' own musical success. Marino has garnered Entertainer of the Year at the prestigious CHIN Festival in Toronto and is a three time `First Place' winner. A principal performer at the Showboat Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, Peter has also performed at many casinos, such as the Trump Castle where he sang at the birthday party of Mr. Donald Trump. Marino has shared many electrifying performances in the Good Times Variety Show and recently performed for the cast of the popular TV series `The Sopranos' in Atlantic City, at the Hilton Hotel & Casino. Being a performer has opened up many opportunities for Marino and his `loveliest night of the year' was performing at the annual Mario Lanza Ball in Philadelphia, PA. Peter fulfilled one of his dreams that evening and found it quite surreal to be embraced by a crowd amongst Mario Lanza's kids, colleagues, and friends; all pulled together in the midst of his mentor's memory. "I looked up to him as a kid and now here I am singing at this ball, it was almost too much" recalls Peter of the man who was one of the influential singers for Peter becoming a Tenor. Whether he's known as a contemporary pop singer while performing in nightclubs, or a Canadian Tenor having formed the renowned group `Canada's Three Tenors', Peter takes pride in his ability to entertain any type of crowd. "From a country song to an opera piece, I enjoy doing a little bit of everything" he shares. And variety he offers! Whether it's stand-up comedy, performing various song styles, incredible impressions of Tom Jones, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Julio Iglesias, and Kenny Rogers to name a few, or theatrical pieces including The Phantom of the Opera, this relentless artist has talent! Having shared the stage with many well-known comics like Jackie Mason, Mal Z. Lawrence, Pat Cooper, Lenny Rush, Gordie Tapp, and many singers including the Lawrence Welk Singers & Orchestra with Henry Cuesta, See Peter Marino live Saturday, November 4 at Twisted Fork, Oakville. Peter Marino holds his own and will entertain you like never before. Some of Peter's up-and-coming entertainment ventures include a local appearance on City TV's Breakfast Television on November 6th and performances at The Resorts Hotel & Casino along with a three week Christmas show at The Hilton Hotel & Casino, both in Atlantic City. Plans to release a new CD are also in the works for early spring, look for details on Peter's website www.petermarino.ca.
