That's why he said he didn't include any of the business and community involvement he's had under his Muslim name, Jaafer Syed, in his campaign literature. However, the 34-yearold Glen Abbey financial advisor is now at the centre of what he calls a "smear campaign" as information about his Muslim conversion in 1992, his adoption of a Muslim name in 1994 and his business and community involvement in the local Muslim community is being highlighted in the media. An article on the fact that Gareau also goes by the Muslim name adopted from his father-in-law when doing business in Muslim circles appeared earlier this week in The Globe and Mail. "It's a critical part of the job," said Mulvale in response to the question posed at an all-candidates meeting hosted by Fair Vote Canada and Oakville Green Wednesday night.
