Sixteen-year-old Nicholaas Van Gemert was the winner of the five-kilometer run at the Trek or Treat event, which was held last month on Oakville Heritage Trails. Van Gemert's 12-year-old brother, Stephen, finished third. Other notable locals in the 5km run included Tim Rankin (sixth overall, first in men's 4049 division), Roy Macdonnell (ninth overall, first in men's 50-and-over division), Katie Macdonnell (10th overall, first in women's overall) and Karen Rose (first in women's 50and-over division). In the 9km race, Tyler Lord was the top local finisher, placing ninth overall and first in the men's 20-29 division. Martin Rydlo of Toronto won the race. Nearly 350 people participated in the Trek or Treat event, which, according to organizers, was Canada's first-ever night trail run. Gift cards for ECCO shoes were awarded to the winners of each age division, while secondplace finishers received Lexi Nordic walking poles.
