Oakville 905 847 3200 www.neziol.com Sweeney new Little League president Continued from page 42 The house league also serves as a feeder system for the league's AllStar squads that represent the town in various tournaments as well as provincial and national playdowns. Sweeney, who has many years of experience as an active board member, coach and volunteer in various youth sports, emphasized the importance of the league's Coaching Development Program. The program aims to provide volunteer coaches with the required tools and knowledge to develop not only a player's baseball skills, but also the skills of commitment, leadership and teamwork. One major project Sweeney and the Oakville Little League board of directors intend to work on is the building of a Little League clubhouse at the league's recently-built "Field of Dreams" facility, located in east Oakville on Cornwall Road. "The clubhouse project is extremely important to our league as it provides us with a home base for the operation of the league and improves the facilities at our showcase ballpark," said Sweeney. "A facility like this will allow us to more effectively run our programs and host provincial or national championships in the future." Finally, Sweeney hopes to maintain a strong group of volunteers that features family participation. "Teaching our children by example sends a valuable message about teamwork, commitment, creating new friendships and the value of family time together," he said. Oakville Little League vice-president of baseball operations and long-time coach John Mooney believes Sweeney has plenty to offer as the league's new president. "He offers very strong organizational talents. He is very good at setting direction, listening to new ideas put forward and executing on the plans of the league," said Mooney. "He always asks the board and volunteers if what we are doing or proposing will improve the league for our players." The Oakville Little League will hold an information and registration session tomorrow (Saturday) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Oakville Town Hall (1225 Trafalgar Rd.), where plans for the new clubhouse will be on display. Alternatively, registration for the upcoming season can be completed online at www.oakvillelittleleague.com.
