The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday December 6, 2006 - 11 Man in hot water following chase through Oakville Place A young man faces several criminal charges in connection with a foot chase through the Oakville Place shopping centre following a botched robbery attempt Friday night. The incident began when a man was spotted in a restricted area of Sears by store employees. According to witnesses, he fled the store with a hammer stolen from the tool department. He was followed to Telus Mobility, where he allegedly threatened a store employee and tried to strike him, but missed. Police said the employee moved away and wasn't injured. The suspect then stole some items and left the Telus Mobility store. At that point, security officers from the mall were alerted and found a man, who made threats to them with the hammer in his hand. One security officer was pushed to the ground and suffered a minor injury. Police arrived shortly afterwards and arrested a suspect following a short foot chase through the mall. Charged is Trevor Weir, 27, of no fixed address. The suspect is charged with robbery, theft under $5,000, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm/death, assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failure to comply with an undertaking of bail and possession of a controlled drug marijuana. He was held for a bail hearing scheduled for earlier this week at the Ontario Court of Justice in the Town of Milton. The Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident. Anyone with information related to it is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 or 905-634-1831, ext 2215 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1800-222-TIPS (8477).
