Oakville Art Society (OAS) painters, potters and sculptors will have some of their most affordable work on display at the Bronte café, just in time for holiday shopping. "It's a great partnership project," says CJ Martin, owner of the café, which has a priority on showcasing the work of local artists. "People who might not normally buy larger original pieces can start collecting or gifting art that is smaller and more affordable. Local artists get exposure, and purchasers get something completely unique for a great price it's win-win for everyone, especially at this time of year." The water colours and oil paintings in the show are small in size, "so they make good pieces for small spaces or cozy corners," says Sabine Frisch, administrator of the Oakville Art Society. "Most of the 3D work is functional as well as artistic," she adds. "The Oakville Art Society is delighted to have the opportunity to extend their Christmas show into the community," says Helen Hendry, who is helping coordinate the show at CJ's for the OAS. The opening reception is tonight from 6 8:30 p.m. at CJ's Café, 2416 Lakeshore Rd. W., and features complimentary refreshments. All are welcome to come out, and some of the artists will be in attendance. The Holiday Giftable Art Show runs to Jan. 9. Indulge in natures five elements at 5th Element Day Spa Be transported into another world. Let your stress fade away. Discover you inner serenity and be at one with your mind, body and soul. Accomplish all this and more at 5th Element Day Spa. Upon entering 5th Element Day Spa, you may think you are in a regular run-of-the-mill spa, filled with scented aromas and a beautifully decorated interior. This is where the run-of-the-mill part ends. The very second you are met by the hostess, you begin to realize that this in no ordinary day spa. Owned and operated by Evelyn Santizo, 5th Element Day Spa is only a few months old, but already has a following of loyal customers. The success of the spa is directly related to Evelyn's vision. After many years of working in the fashion and make-up industry with names like Hugo Boss, Donna Karen, HBC and more, Evelyn was inspired to incorporate fashion and beauty together and create a day spa. "Instead of designing a clothing line I decided to design an environment," says Evelyn. "I have traveled the world to many different spas figuring out what I loved, didn't like and what they may have been missing. This experience inspired me to create not only an environment, but also a journey. I want people to feel like they have stepped into a different environment when they are here." With this in mind, Evelyn created the 5th Element Day Spa. Based on nature's five elements: earth, fire, water, metal and wood, Evelyn has created a Feng Shui designed, balanced and harmonious environment for her guests. Come along with me on my journey to 5th Element Day Spa as I experience first-hand what Evelyn's vision is all about. My visit at 5th Element Day Spa starts with a delicious, all-natural, herbal tea. I am then transported inside the spa where I am greeted with natural aromatic scents of jasmine and citrus. Soft music plays offering sounds of piano, water, nature and violins. I immediately feel peace and tranquility sweep over me. Stone, bamboo, plants, lightwood and all things natural awaken my senses. My first treatment is the Elemental Signature Spa Pedicure. My tired feet and legs are treated to a natural aromatherapy scrub, designed to remove dead cells. A Shea Butter foot mask to hydrate and refresh my feet and legs follow this. Scents of Rosemary and jasmine fill the air while I sip my tea. With my feet wrapped in heated towels, Gavyna, my esthetician pampers me with a hand and arm massage while me feet soak up the Shea Butter mask. This is followed with a foot and leg massage and I am on my way to my next treatment. Already feeling quite relaxed I meet Blanca, Manager of 5th Element Day Spa, and sister of Evelyn. With tremendous experience, I am in good hands. My next service is an Element Body Treatment with Vichy Shower. Blanca starts with a spiritual ritual. Unique to 5th Element, The ritual we do incorporates Feng Shui to create positive energy, and help us center ourselves and be in the moment to totally experience the treatment. It helps to release the day-to-day stresses and leave them at the door. We light two candles together, one symbolizes the therapist's energy and the other symbolizes the receivers energy, in order to become one. Then we light incense which helps to get rid of any negative energy in room. The smell of incense fills the air as my treatment begins. My body is first massaged with an invigorating brown sugar body scrub and wrap designed to stimulate cellular renewal, protect and nourish my skin while purifying with a spicy aromatic blend of orange, mandarin, tanger- ine and a combination of essential oils. This treatment is finished off with a light re-hydrating mist of a lavender and verbena blend to moisturize and soften my skin. With the sound of water trickling down and the essential oils filling the air, I am feeling very peaceful and at ease. I am then taken to another room where I have a relaxing body massage, am wrapped in a heat blanket and I feel my stresses slowly melting away. From here I head back to Gavyna where I receive an Elemental Signature Spa Manicure. This nourishing hand and nail treatment is done using aromatherapy products rich in essential oils of lemon, rosemary and lavender to strengthen, restore and promote cellular removal. While my hands soak in heated towels, I am treated to a head massage fol- lowed by a hand and arm massage. Blanca leads me to the lounge where I sip on herbal tea and wait for my last service. As I sit in the Feng Shui-designed lounge, I begin to see and feel the difference of this spa. As I look around, I see the five elements of Feng Shu represented here. A wall symbolizing wood, fire, metal, water and of course earth. This environment allows me to feel more balanced somehow than I ever have felt before. I feel completely at peace with my entire self... I think Evelyn's vision has been successful. As I finish my herbal tea, Blanca brings me to my last treatment, an Aromatic Element Signature Facial. Before the treatment, we Continued on Page 17
