www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday December 6, 2006 - 5 Only two women on Oakville Town Council Continued from page 1 votes in the 2003 election, Burton defeated the veteran mayor in November, by a margin of almost 2,000 votes. November's municipal election saw 35.8 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots an improvement of about six per cent over the 2003 election. While a number of familiar faces returned to the council chambers for the upcoming four-year term of office, four new councillors took their seats for the first time on Monday. Councillor Alan Johnston represents Ward 1 as the Town and Regional councillor, replacing Mike Lansdown, who chose not to run again. In Ward 3, Town Councillor Mary Chapin is replacing Chris Stoate, who took an unsuccessful run at the mayor's job. Roger Lapworth represents Ward 4 as the town councillor, replacing Renee Sandelowsky, who chose not to run again. And in Ward 6, Max Khan is taking the town council seat previously held by Tom Adams. Adams was elected to the position of town and regional councillor, replacing Janice Wright who also unsuccessfully challenged for the mayor's seat. With the loss of Wright, Sandelowsky and Mulvale, only two of the 13 seats on town council are now held by women. Following the official inauguration ceremony, the new town council approved a number of council appointments to various local boards and committees. The Town's 2007 Administrative Services committee will consist of: Mayor Rob Burton, Councillor Keith Bird (Ward 3), Councillor Alan Johnston (Ward 1), Councillor Max Khan (Ward 6), Councillor Jeff Knoll (Ward 5), Councillor Roger Lapworth (Ward 4) and Councillor Fred Oliver (Ward 2). The Town's 2007 Community Services committee will consist of: Mayor Rob Burton, Councillor Tom Adams (Ward 6), Councillor Mary Chapin (Ward 3), Councillor Cathy Duddeck (Ward 2), Councillor Allan Elgar (Ward 4), Councillor Marc Grant (Ward 5) and Councillor Ralph Robinson (Ward 1). This year's town Budget committee will include Burton, Bird, Duddeck, Johnston and Lapworth. In Time For The Holidays * 25% OFF Sale ON ALL PLASMA & LCD TV ENTERTAINMENT UNITS IN STOCK.
