Oakville went 2-1-1 in roundrobin play at the Rochester competition, then defeated the Newmarket Redmen 3-1 in the championship game. Atom A Rangers continue to enjoy tournament success The tournament success continues for the Oakville atom A Rangers, whose gold-medal win at a competition last weekend in Rochester was their third in as many tries this season. Oakville posted a 2-1-1 record in round-robin action to earn a spot in the final, where they downed the Newmarket Redmen 3-1. Rangers forward Ben Everett was named the most valuable player in the tournament. In its earlier games, Oakville tied the Applewood Coyotes 2-2, blanked the Monroe County Eagles 3-0, blitzed the Cheektowaga Warriors 10-0 and fell 2-1 to the Redmen. Members of the team are Logan Gauer, Lukas Marek, Zach Varao, James Bauer, Victor Christiansen, Troy Lacoste, Tyler Hipple, Adam Power, Christian Hayes, Will Santangeli, Tim Molloy, Erik Ritterhaus, Theo Lewis, Brandon Hughes, Brad Johnson and Nicholas Cassie. The team is coached by David Santangeli, Glen Lacoste, Raymond Cassie and John Varao. SPORTSBRIEFS The Harvard freshman stopped all 20 shots she faced in a 4-0 victory Saturday over Minnesota Duluth. Kessler's effort came on the heels of a 5-0 win over Princeton the previous week, which earned her ECACHL rookie-of-the-week honours. In three games this season, Kessler has posted a 3-0 record, an 0.33 goals-against average and a .986 save percentage. Fourth-ranked Harvard hosts New Hampshire tonight and is home to Providence tomorrow. Running socks for charity The Running Company's Christmas running socks program is underway for the seventh consecutive year. Special Saucony running socks are being sold to runners and walkers for five dollars, with all money received being donated to the Oakville Humane Society. According to The Running Company store manager Greg McKinnon, the program has raised thousands of dollars for the Oakville Humane Society in past years.
