32 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday December 20, 2006 www.oakvillebeaver.com Chartwell Baptist Church hosts Longest Night Service Thursday Chartwell Baptist Church will hold its fourth annual Service of the Longest Night for people of the community who experience sadness and grief at this time of year because of the loss of a loved one. The longest night of the year, the period with fewest daylight hours, comes days before some of the most joyous times of Christmas. The days before Christmas can be very sad for those mourning the loss of a loved one. It seems that all is darkness and that the morning will never come. The Service of the Longest Night will be held Thursday, Dec. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Chartwell Baptist Church is located at 228 Chartwell Rd. For Christians, people may find God offers consolation and hope. Through the Service of the Longest Night, the church offers consolation and hope of God to those who grieve and mourn. Christmas is a time for memories and remembering. For some, the memories are of their loved ones who have died, and the pain of their loss is real. People need to remember and need the space and place to acknowledge their sadness and concern and they need to know that they are not alone. They need a special time to be together to receive the words of hope that speak to them in the midst of sorrow. The loss may have been years ago, but at Christmas there are feelings that are always more tender and closer to the surface. Sharing in prayer, scripture readings and hymns helps people to know that God's presence is for those who mourn, and God's word comes to give light to darkness. Light refreshments will follow the service. Everyone is welcome. For information call 905-844-2801. New bus transfer system starts Jan. 1 Starting Jan. 1, Oakville Transit will be offering Timed Expired Transfers -- a new transfer method that will allow passengers the flexibility of using one transfer within a limited time, rather than having to buy two or more one-way tickets. For example, if passengers need to stop off quickly at a store on their way home, or drop off their children at daycare on their way to work, the time expired transfer will allow them to hop off the bus and hop on the next bus -- all on one transfer -- no need to pay again. The transfer is good for two hours from the route's starting time (not the time the transfer was issued upon boarding the bus) with the expiry time indicated on the transfer. Passengers simply have to ask for the transfer at the time of payment (by ticket or cash fare) when boarding the bus. Drivers will not issue a transfer at any other point along the route. Passengers simply show the transfer to the driver upon boarding each bus. Once the transfer expires, passengers will have to pay an additional fare. To avoid spoilage of fresh herbs, I keep Toppits Frozen Garlic, Ginger and Herb Cubes on hand for an easy way to add fresh herbs to every meal. 4. Don't pig out at parties. Remember, you're at the party to have fun with people. Peruse the food and limit yourself to small portions. 5. Which brings us to alcohol. Alcohol moderation is key. Limit yourself to one drink a day and make sure you eat at least 5-10 servings of fruits and veggies. 6. Wash those hands. Make it a habit to wash your hands often during the day. 7.
