They were among 500 people who took the plunge Jan. 1 at Coronation Park during this year's 22nd annual Courage Brothers' Polar Bear Dip for World Vision. Together, the five hockey players contributed $1,000 of the total $41,000 (and counting) that was raised for the Koukané Water Project in Senegal. A solar pump and ground reservoir will give 1,300 impoverished people in the west African country access to safe, fresh, clean water daily and enable food production and better health. The makeshift rink made of Masonite and poster board is a handyman special. With four holes sawed out (two per side) four of the players stood inside them and hoisted shoulder straps so that the elaborate costume could sit at waist height while they waded into the 4 Celsius water. By the way, officially the red team of Derek Quinlan and Janos Csepreghi won the water hockey game 1-0 against the yellow team of Andrew Melito and Steve Scott. After the game, Team Canucklehead dislodged themselves from the makeshift arena, removed their game jerseys and instead of sensibly wrapping themselves up in warm towels headed back into the cold water, joined hands See Dippers page 11 Voted Oakville's Best Used CD & DVD Store CDs DVDs www.beatgoeson.com Games · Wood & Vinyl Shutters, Supplied & Installed · High Quality at Affordable Prices · Customer Satisfaction Guaranteed · Serving Oakville with Shop at Home Service Authorized Vinylbilt Dealer Shop at Home Service Buy, Sell, Trade FREE www.shuttersetc.ca
