www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday January 5, 2007 - 11 From resolve to reality The New Year has come, and with it the list of resolutions; work out more often, lose weight, eat healthier. How many of us place these resolutions at the top of our New Years list? Setting New Year's resolutions is a timehonoured tradition, but many people lose their resolve after a month or two. Make an Image To achieve success it's important to figure out exactly why, what and how you want to change, and to `picture' the results. You need to create a mental image of exactly what it looks and feels like to do whatever it is you resolve to do, whether it be eating better, exercising more or losing weight. You need to own this image in a way that is similar to watching a movie. Think of the process as if you were an architect who is resolved to build the best house ever. For the house to be built there must be a clear and specific vision in the architect's mind of what the house will look like, who it is lifestyle, a stronger body the goals can start big, but eventually they must become specific. · Decide you are ready to do it rather than just wanting it you have to commit to it and believe you can do it and will do it. · Decide what success will look like and what your milestones (mini-goals) will be along the way. · Plan on how you will reward yourself for ongoing successes. Perhaps a new pair of running shoes or a day at the spa. So, that is the secret to keeping your New Year's resolution. Live as if you are already doing it and your resolve will become your reality.
