www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday January 5, 2007 - 23 Quality hockey on tap this weekend After a two-week Christmas break, the Oakville Blades will resume the Provincial Junior A Hockey League season tonight with a home game against the Streetsville Derbys. Oakville hopes to pick up where it left off before the break, having won 14 consecutive games and moving into first place in the West Conference. The Blades are 30-5-1-1 and seven of their remaining 11 games will be played at home, where they have been beaten only once in regulation time this year. Game time at Dominion Twin Rinks is slated for 7:30 p.m. Women's hockey The Oakville Ice also returns to action this weekend after a lengthy break, playing host to the Quebec Avalanche Sunday at CanLan Ice Sports. The Ice has not played a National Women's Hockey League game since Dec. 22. Game time is 1:30 p.m. Tavares in Mississauga Local hockey fans will have an opportunity to see Oakville superstar John Tavares in action this weekend as he leads his Oshawa Generals into Mississauga for a game with the IceDogs. The 16-year-old Tavares is averaging nearly two points a game in his second Ontario Hockey League season, having recorded 32 goals and 31 assists in 34 games thus far. Tomorrow's contest (4 p.m. at the Hershey Centre) is Oshawa's only regular-season visit to Mississauga this year.
